Laura W. Kretschmer, EdD, CCC-A

Laura is Professor Emerita of Audiology in the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders, College of Allied Health Sciences, at the University of Cincinnati where she was employed since 1967. She taught graduate courses in audiology and a course on management of hard of hearing children in schools for students in speech-language-pathology. Her particular interests are in vocal development in typical infants, and management of young children who with hearing loss. She has been a co-author with Richard Kretschmer on two books, and several chapters, as well as a dozen articles on the topic of communication development in children with hearing loss. She co-teaches the two language classes in the Distance Learning Program with Richard Kretschmer.

Richard R. Kretschmer, EdD

Richard is Professor Emeritus and former Director of Graduate Programs in the Division of Teacher Education at the University of Cincinnati where he was employed since 1970. He has taught a very popular graduate course in theories of language development with typical enrollments of 50-70 SLP, audiology and special education/early childhood students. He is well known and well regarded as a researcher, writer and educator on the topic of language development in children with hearing loss, as well as with children with other kinds of communication and language learning challenges. Most recently, he has been involved in research on children who are acquiring English as a second language or who are bilingual. He co-teaches the two language classes in the Distance Learning Program with Laura Kretschmer.
