Parent Preparation
After notification of acceptance, parents begin planning
- Parents communicate regularly with the summer session coordinator to be sure all records and evaluations have been submitted. Families can begin developing a list of concerns they hope to address. For example, parents might explore education options in their area to be able to share with JTC staff what they are considering for their preschool child in the coming year. Other family members may have questions they hope can be answered.
Preschooler Preparation
During the summer session parents remain with their children each morning until they are comfortable in the class. Parents say "Good-bye" before leaving and explain they will be back at the end of the day. It is not unusual for children to have separation anxiety in a new place with new people. John Tracy Clinic is supportive of the parent-child bond, and never forces separation. However, parents need to participate in all the adult meetings to get the maximum benefit of parent classes and support groups. If a preschool child has never been separated from their primary caregiver, it is encouraged that a child has successful separation experiences prior to summer session to make the adjustment to the preschool setting easier.
