Auditory Sandwich
Learning to listen takes experience. Provide a child with opportunities to listen first, next listen with a visual cue, then listen again.
To add visuals as needed: Use objects in babies’ play. Put gestures in toddlers’ routines. Provide pictures in preschoolers’ activities.
By building an auditory sandwich (hear/see/hear) you offer conversational repetition to help children improve their listening and language.
